Heather Millward

ASID, CID, NCIDQ
Founder + Principal

Heather’s 25-year career has been dedicated to designing simple but versatile spaces that people love to be in. As a residential renovation specialist, she offers end-to-end expertise, from designing custom kitchens, baths, and millwork, to extensive experience in all phases of construction.

  • Before founding Millward Architecture + Design, she completed dozens of residential projects in New York City and the Hamptons with her own full-service studio, Heather Millward Interiors. She has also worked within numerous New York architecture and interior firms designing high-end homes and workplaces.

Heather enjoys being able to collaborate closely with clients, both to develop an empathic understanding of their unique circumstances and needs for their homes, and to shepherd them through the design process patiently. She brings an innate curiosity to every project, always seeking new means to design and refine our living spaces. Heather is also a lifelong musician (a former piano teacher, and recently, a student of the cello), and she values how different forms of creative expression have informed her design practice.

Heather is originally from Canada, where she earned a Bachelor of Interior Design degree from the University of Manitoba. She is licensed in New York State, certified by the Council for Interior Design Qualification, and a member of the American Society of Interior Designers.

Erik Millward

AIA, RA, CPHD, NCARB
Founder + Principal

Erik is an architect driven to help people live better through innovative residential design. His work balances a creative engagement with emerging modes of home design and construction with a rigorous commitment to process, efficiency, and quality craftsmanship. In an alternate reality, Erik would be a full-time hockey player - instead, he looks forward to a late night game every week.

  • Prior to founding Millward Architecture and Design, Erik amassed over a decade of experience overseeing budgets, schedules, and staff for large-scale, international hospitality and commercial projects at firms including IA and VOA Associates. Previously, he spent almost 9 years honing the art of high-end residential architecture as a townhouse-renovation specialist in New York City. Erik began his career in home design as a craftsman, operating his own custom cabinetry workshop for several years while completing his training as an architect.

Erik’s approach to design has been deeply influenced by his upbringing in the extreme climate of the Canadian Prairies. Learning to design and build for challenging conditions taught Erik the value of material responsibility. This respect for resources has carried over into his continued studies into new building sciences that yield more energy-efficient homes in harmony with their natural environments.

Erik received his Bachelor of Environmental Design and Masters of Architecture degrees from the University of Manitoba. He is a registered architect in New York State, a member of the American Institute of Architects, and a Certified Passive House Designer.
