Park Slope Townhouse Renovation

Location: Brooklyn, NY
Status: Completed
Sq. ft.: 1,420

  • The full renovation of a 12-foot-wide townhouse in Park Slope, Brooklyn reimagined this historic building to make space for a family of four and their two large dogs. This narrow residence built in 1895 hadn’t been updated in over 70 years. A comprehensive redesign addressed interiors and exterior, finding creative solutions to maximize living space and bring a modern stylistic sensibility to the home.

On the primary floor, an addition created a light-filled sitting room that opens onto the rear yard. A new open plan kitchen configuration admits ample daylight and clever cabinetry maximizes storage. A new master suite on the second floor incorporates a walk in-closet and en-suite bath. The basement level was completely built out with an additional bedroom, bath, and sitting area with integrated storage. Throughout, clever built-ins and a refined materials palette create a sense of order and maintain the interior’s clean lines. Passive House efficiency principles were incorporated into the building’s design through updated mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and a new façade.

Despite its small footprint, the redesigned townhouse’s additional baths, bedrooms, space and storage comfortably accommodate a family and their various activities. Nimble project management enabled the residents to occupy the building during construction with minimal disruption.
